Excellent quality, poor design Oct 16, 2010
By A. Neuman
"A."
First of all, This bag has excellent craftsmanship and has all the pockets and room I needed. However, it's designed for tall people only. I purchased it for school but had to stop using it because of the strap. I'm 5'3" and it doesn't get short enough for me to ride with it on my bike without it getting stuck on the bike seat and causing me to lose balance on my bike (not good in traffic). Also, the padded "comfort" strap does not go over the adjustment buckle so it's useless and just sits to the side.
If you're tall, don't let this stop you from getting this bag. When I was using it, I received compliments and like I said, the quality is just wonderful.
Very Nice Crossbody Bag Mar 31, 2011
By I. Peters I got this bag in black in the medium size. Here are my comments:
DESIGN:
- The bag material is high-quality nonetheless light-weight polyester. The buckle is the same as the seat belt buckles in airplanes, the surface of the buckle itself is brushed, and even has the word "Lift" printed on it. Nice touch, and quite classy looking. Note that the buckle strap is non-adjustable but works equally well whether the bag is empty or full. The straps are made of original seat belt material as well and the shoulder strap extends around the bottom of the bag, thus keeping the bag from bulging out at the bottom when loaded. All in all the bag has a high-quality feel to it, rugged, sporty and stylish all at the same time.
- On the backside is a zippered exterior pocket which has a good size, running the entire width of the bag and going all the way down. Inside the main compartment is a panel with a zippered pocket, two open pockets (for cell phones, etc.) and two open pen pockets. The interior is of a light gray color, making it easy to find what one is looking for.
- There is no top zipper underneath the flap but unlike many other bags, the flap covers the opening very well. A pickpocket would have a hard time getting in. I would feel ok wearing this bag in a busy city.
SIZE:
The medium size is a bit small for those people who love oversize bags and tend to shlep a lot of stuff with them. I usually carry bags double the size of this one, BUT was able to get all my stuff from the big bag into the Air Belt bag. Of course things are tight but they can still be removed rather easily, they are just not "floating around" as they would in the big bag.
The shape and size of the medium bag is, however, perfect to wear it cross-body style. Due to the padded and large shoulder pad it is very comfortable although the pad tends to move around a bit too much. I do have to occasionally retrieve it from my back :-)
USABILITY:
I agree with the reviewer who criticized that the shoulder strap can only be adjusted so much because the shoulder pad does not go over the strap's buckle. It would have been helpful if the shoulder pad could be opened via Velcro in order to accommodate shorter strap lengths. One point deduction for that. I myself am 5'7" and do not have a problem with this, but I also wear it exclusively as a cross-body bag, too.
The bag turned out to be perfect for my 10.2" netbook which I keep in a thin neoprene sleeve. It fits perfectly length-wise and there is plenty of room next to the netbook for power adapter, etc. Because the bag itself is very lightweight, carrying a netbook in it is comfortable and does not make the load too heavy.
SUMMARY:
I own a few other Reisenthel items such as the Carry Bag and some of their storage boxes and find that this company consistently makes good quality stuff with clever designs. I recommend this bag, and the reason for not giving it 5 stars is solely because of the non-removable shoulder pad issue that does not allow for shorter shoulder strap lengths. Other that that, I am very happy with the Air Belt Bag and have received many compliments for it.
